Before his death, Craven had intended to move forward with the franchise after Scream 4 with plans to develop at least two more sequels. The previous Scream movies were directed by late horror filmmaker Wes Craven. Original screenwriter Kevin Williamson executive produces alongside Chad Villella, Gary Barber, Peter Oillataguerre, Ron Lynch, Cathy Konrad, and Marianne Maddalena. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (the filmmakers behind the acclaimed horror hit Ready or Not) co-direct the movie using a screenplay by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. This is a Project X Entertainment Production and a Radio Silence Film presented by Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media Group. The official synopsis reads: "Twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, a new killer has donned the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town’s deadly past. Who will survive? We'll all find out next month. Set to appear in theaters in January, the new movie will put Sidney Prescott in danger once again when Ghostface returns with yet another killer (or killers) under the mask to carry out a Woodsboro massacre.
